Shakti Melbourne provides advocacy, social outreach work, support for safe refuge/housing, interpretation, awareness-raising on domestic violence affecting immigrant families and women’s support group.
The Palesviaki Enosis Club is a philanthropic association that has been in existence for over 30 years. Originally it was established to provide a support network for Greek Australians from the island of Lesvos, Greece. The club has evolved to include the broader Knox community in its activities.
Activities include weekly and monthly lunches for Seniors. Physical activities include – Bocce; junior soccer; gymbaroo. Various functions are conducted throughout the year to celebrate diversity. Club hours: Thursday 1-5pm, Friday 7-11pm, Saturday & Sunday 1-5pm, Public Holidays 1-5pm.
The Knox City Chinese Social Club meet every Monday 1-3pm First Monday of the month: learning Australian folk songs and culture Second Monday of the month: learning some basic everyday English. Third Monday of the month:forum on health (aged care), Centrelink, Legal matters etc. Fourth Monday of the month: craft, origami and Fifth Monday: socializing amoung group members.
ISOMER is a not for profit Islamic based organisation. It includes a mosque where prayers are conducted five times a day. It also includes a retirement home which is a multicultural facility where respite services are available. ISOMER conducts Arabic school on Sundays and youth gatherings on Friday evenings. Islamic classes for women are held on Wednesdays and general classes are held at other times
The group generally meets on the first Sunday of a month at Bayswater Primary School between 2-5pm. On special festival days, the group meets at other times.
The Eastern Districts Polish Association (Melbourne) provides and promotes cultural and regional activities for Polish people and other ethnic communities through social gatherings, meetings, fairs and festivals, sport, music events, theatre and film presentations; arts exhibitions and information services.
