There are a lot of different ways that you can explore your career options. Use activity one to make a list of possible occupations for further research.
Use one or more of the websites provided in activity two to ‘search occupations’ relating to your own personal skills and education level. If you know anyone working in fields that you are interested in, ask them questions about the education and skills required and what the conditions are in the industry.
It’s important to explore your options fully before committing to expensive and time consuming training. If you already have an idea of some things that you’d like to explore you could skip activity one and move directly to activity two.
If you don’t have a list, start with activity one to help you begin a list of possible options.
Activity One
Below are a range of topic areas for you to explore. You don’t need to explore them all, just choose the ones that re in your own interest areas. These bullseye posters can help you to identify occupations that link with areas of your interest or that you enjoy. It will also allow you to see which level of education and training these occupations require. Click on the subject title for the four education and training levels and the matching occupation titles. Make a list of occupations that may be a possible match for your own personal requirements.
Activity Two
Now that you have a list of job or career options that you’re interested in, you should use these resources to find out more about them. What do you really need to know about a job?
How much available work there is in that field ?
The conditions of work. For example full-time, part-time, casual, shift, pay rates etc. This will need to suit your own needs as you discovered in step one, knowing yourself. Qualification or education level needed to perform the duties.
If you need to undertake a course, you will need to find out more information about your study options. For example fees, location, times etc. Go to the Job Outlook occupations search and type in the name of the job to find out all of the information you need to decide if it should be left on or crossed off your list.

Activity Three
You should now have a short list of jobs or occupations that you are interested in working toward. Keep some notes about what skills, qualifications etc. are needed to undertake that occupation so that you can plan to gain them.
